Uninvited Guests

Unfortunately we also had a few UNINVITED guests on Independence Day.

At 6 am Tia is downstairs with her dad getting some Weetabix. "Oooh" she says and points.

Chris turns around to see what looks like a brown recluse spider (very dangerous, its bite leaves some flesh eating dodgyness behind) on our kitchen floor.
Ever the adventurer, Chris gives it a tap - and a spider crawls off the big one...

He gets it into a tub and sees that this spider is delivering, hatching - whatever multiple numbers of these little critters! As we went to the tub through the day there were scores more spiders inside....

Later on when all the gang are over eating some apple pie, we step outside into the garden. And lo, what do we see but a black widow spider hanging out on its web. No pictures; Chris killed it immediately.

A spider fest is not ideal when you have a toddler and an ickle one!

Thankfully the exterminator dude - our hero - came out this morning and saturated house and garden with spider killing chemicals...
He helpfully informed us that the reproducing spider in a tub, was not a brown recluse, but the less dangerous wolf spider.

"Yeah, that one's not so dangerous. It'll only give you a nasty bite and it'll hurt awhile. You don't want them around though."

It's a sad day when the spider that gives you a nasty bite ( and leaves scores of mini me's to follow in its footsteps) is considered the safe and reassuring option.
